Belle Boone Beard (1898-1984) was a noted centenarian researcher and professor of gerontology. She was born in Boones Mill, Va., graduated from Lynchburg College and then earned a Ph.D. from Bryn Mawr. Dr. Beard proposed and attended the first White House Conference on Aging.
